ABC4 Frickin Reporting on Richmond American

Well, here we go! Below is the investigative report by Kelli O’Hara with ABC4.

In Richmond’s defense (who knew I would ever start a sentence that way!) the following items have now been fixed:

- Insulation. Apparently there was insulation between the garage and our floor, but there was a large portion of the attic above our master bedroom with ZERO insulation. Richmond American took care of this problem yesterday. Below is a picture of the contractor blowing in the needed insulation. (Thank you!) They also increased the amount of insulation (brought it up to code) above the entire 2nd floor. I am excited to report that our home was so warm last night! We didn’t even need the space heater in our room. WOW, What a difference!

- Garage ceiling. The drywall on our garage ceiling has been replaced, so there are no obvious signs of water damage from our leaky roof, now. Yes!

Today we are expecting:

- Fireplace repair
- Window seal repair
- Back porch repair
- Laundry room repair

UPDATE:  2:00 p.m.

What an amazing day! Our window seals have been repaired. Apparently there was an issue with a lack of weather stripping. (Read Richmond’s response to our leaking window request three years ago. They have a very different attitude now.) Richmond American went the extra mile and inspected/repaired every window in our home -not just the three we mentioned earlier. NICE WORK!

The fireplace was serviced, as well. There is no more plastic covering our fireplace, and I don’t feel a breeze anymore. They are also going the extra mile on our fireplace and are going to add insulation up in our eaves where there are some unintended vents. (Richmond, feel free to correct me if I explained that incorrectly.)

Our back porch is as good as new. It no longer sags. I don’t believe this item was mentioned earlier on the blog, but it was a safety concern. They replaced the steps and the support system, and even offered to paint it.

Finally, I have a normal laundry room! My washer and dryer both fit in the room comfortably now. In addition to having a professional contractor work on the vent, Kevin Jensen personally addressed this issue and worked some additional magic. End result- the problem was rectified and it looks fantastic. Thank you!

The only item left to be fixed is our driveway. I am pleased to report that Richmond American is going to fix every RA driveway in our neighborhood that is spalling. (Attention neighbors–  submit the request immediately. They are measuring the driveways next week.) Way to go the distance, Richmond! I am no longer hopeful; I am ecstatic and appreciative. Poli and Kevin, you two are frickin awesome. Thank you.

I just want to give your house a giant, make everything better, bandaid.

Thanks Steph! I am hopeful now that Richmond is finally addressing problems. Thank you ABC4 and thank you Poli.

My favorite part about the whole ABC thing is how they didn’t focus on Richmond’s last-minute penance. They showed what it’s really like working with those home slinging crooks.

We were finally able to get a lot of our things fixed, but in some cases I did it myself because I was sick of their lies and sick of wasting my time trying to get them to do their job under the warranty. My biggest frustration with them for a long time was the crumbling driveway. I think they tried to do a temporary fix the one year so they could sell homes without people seeing all the driveway issues because our entire neighborhood had the problem.

I’m happy to see they are doing something for you. You had it pretty bad compared to some of the other things I’ve seen in Richmond homes. We didn’t have anything near as big as you did.

Hey Russ, that is interesting, I agree.

Question- how is your driveway now? Is it still crumbling? When did you buy your home?

They are coming to my house today to start hopefully fixing some of our issues!! I can’t thank you enough for starting this and getting all of us some results!! Yeah Lori!!!

Hey Lori!!
Yea, Richmond came today and they are going to fix the things we asked them to. Thank you so much for all you did. None of us would have gotten anywhere if it wasn’t for you! You are the BEST!!!!

I CAN’T BELIEVE WE ARE FINALLY GETTING OUR DRIVEWAY REPLACED! Hooray for you Lori, you are awesome. We gave up after 4 years of nothing, and now it’s being fixed. They came to our house today and were so nice and willing to help. It’s great that Richmond is finally making some changes and is willing to do things they should have been doing for years now…..like good customer service. I remember working there and loving my job, but not loving the way home owners were treated and how fast homes were being built with no care for the quality of the homes. I have no idea how our homes passed inspection. I really believe Eagle Mountain City should be paying to help Richmond with the costs, since their inspectors missed(or just dismissed!) so many things. When we had our electrical box turned in the basement, Richmond and the city split the cost. It should be that way now, too. Just grateful though for you, Lori! Thank You!

Hey Lori,

I submitted a request to have the problems in our house fixed (Glad all us neighbors talk ha!) and they called me this afternoon and came right after work to look at what needed to be fixed. It sounds like they are going to fix it all, which is great. I finally see light at the end of the tunnel ha!

Thanks again!

Oh and I agree with Kristina when she said:

“I have no idea how our homes passed inspection. I really believe Eagle Mountain City should be paying to help Richmond with the costs, since their inspectors missed(or just dismissed!) so many things.”

I also agree that Eagle Mountain should be partially responsible for the cost for missing so many things. Poli and Kevin from RA came by today and I am getting the things in my house fixed!! They were even concerned that the dry-wall edging in the master bath is rusting and there is mold growing that nothing I have tried is stopping. They are going to have someone look at it for me. :) I only wish that they had been this helpful years ago!

Thanks Lori! Poli and Kevin came over yesterday and were so friendly! They are going to fix the roof and rain gutters so I won’t have ice build up on my front porch next winter. Yeah for being able to come to my front door without fearing for your life!

Three gentlemen from Richmond American came to our house this afternoon in response to the service request I submitted this morning. I am still SHOCKED by their quick response.

I am so glad they plan to fix our carpet and driveway.

Thank you Lori.

Just wanted to say how happy I am that my home is going to be repaired – the roof, the driveway, shower, sprinklers, disposal, fireplace, laundry room and all. I called Poli Friday, Feb. 26th around 9:30 am and he was @ my home just a few hours later. He sent me an email of the things we talked about and called to make sure I received his email. Poli is amazing! I am sure the repairs will be resolved promptly, at least I am hoping so! It seems to me that Richmond really wants to make things right!

I am just wondering. With Richmond, they have been quick to respond to service requests, and I know that they have to wait until warmer weather for the concrete, but does anyone know if they have a timeline on everything else? I am wondering because I know that Lori got all of her stuff done already, which is wonderful, but with that quick of a response, I am wondering when I will hear from them again.

Hi Katrina,

After they came to my house and evaluated the issues, it took about a week before contractors started showing up. I would love to hear how long it takes for everyone else.

Hurray! They came to my house, too:)

Okay, here is a poem I wrote for them:

Hey Richmond Homes,
you guys rock!
You returned my call
faster than I can walk around the block!
You listened to our complaints which aren’t few.
We really hope you follow through:)
